Funding Please...

People with physical disabilities often belong to support groups, that often them a sense of belonging, support and resources.  Social democratic society believes that humans are social creatures.  Many of these groups depend on funding from the provincial and federal governments. Social democracy believes in equality of condition, or at least the serious effort to reduce, as much as possible, major inequalities of wealth, income, social status, and political influence.” (Mullaly, 2007) this is very different from the liberal believe in “equality of opportunity.”  Liberalism believes that everyone should have the opportunity to do the same as everyone else, but liberalism has to contend with the 50-meter head start.  Social democracy tries to eliminate the gap in the 100-meter race, by having programs that are designed to help families get access to programs and facilities that would be accessible to them otherwise.
As a person with a physical disability I am a member of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba and Society of Manitobans with Disabilities.  These two groups depend on funding from the government to keep their programs running.  These groups provide me with support and funding for special equipment that makes my life much easier.  These groups also provide me with the opportunity for scholarships.
Social democracy is the best ideology that works for physical disabilities, because they try and make inequalities less prevalent and the world more accommodating for people with physical disabilities.

  1. Social democracy sure is the best ideology and it does offer a sense of belonging to everyone and tries to accomodate everyone.I am glad that you have access to funding and support from the two organisations and that they contribute to make your life much easier.I feel that even though the Canadian government is Liberal it tries to offer quite a number of programmes to help persons with physical disabitities and that there is still room for improvement

  2. Great post. There is a difference between Liberalism for equal opportunity, and Social Democracy. I agree that Social Democracy is probably the best ideology that works for for people with physical disabilities. I am glad to hear that they support programs to help make the lives of people with physical disabilities easier. I especially like how you mentioned that you can relate to this because you are already experiencing the great benefits that these programs offer you. It is great to hear that these programs are very successful and are assisting many people with physical disabilities.

  3. For some reason I think Social Democracy is the cloest ideology for social work perspective. Like equal condition for everybody and try to "wash out" the difference between people

  4. I agree with you that social democracy seems to be the best fit when it comes to people who have disabilites. They really do try and create a fair opportunity for everyone to have a chance to participate in society. Without funding, a lot of these programs would not run! I've seen first hand in my own family how important they are to help people who require some assistance, and I can say that without the programs and services I don't know where they'd be today.
